Aluminum has been a common window frame material for
decades, and has proven long term durability. It is stronger than
wood and vinyl so aluminum window frames can be made
narrower, without sacrificing strength. Aluminum windows
generally have more viewing area because of the smaller frames
and match well with contemporary style homes.
The problem with aluminum windows is, since aluminum is a
good conductor, standard aluminum windows are not very energy
efficient. They also tend to accumulate a lot of condensation
when the frames get cold in the winter. All of our aluminum
replacement windows have thermally broken frames. The
thermal break separates the interior and exterior parts of the
window frame, not allowing heat conduction through the frame.
